Welcome to the AVID Region VI Website.

AVID is designed to increase schoolwide learning and performance. The mission of AVID is to ensure that all students, and most especially the least served students in the middle capable of completing a college preparatory path:

  • succeed in rigorous curriculum,
  • will enter mainstream activities of the school,
  • will increase their enrollment in four-year colleges, and
  • will become educated and responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society.

Research shows that leaving capable students out of rigorous courses short-changes the students. Enrolling students in rigorous courses without academic support also short-changes them. AVID encourages students to tackle the most difficult work and gives them the academic and social support that promotes their success.

  • 7th-12th grade program
  • elective class(es) meet during the regular school day
  • targets first-generation college-bound students
  • based on foundations in writing, inquiry, collaboration and reading
  • Socratic tutorials twice a week to support student success
